The Bridgewater Sing-Off Rules:
The Bridgewater Sing-Off is a musical talent competition being sponsored by The Kimberly A. Nelson Foundation and organized by the Friends of the Foundation. Participation is limited to current BRHS students including Bridgewater students attending Somerset County Vo-Tech.
Proceeds from the event will directly benefit our scholarship program for eligible BRHS students as well as provide direct grants to support the performing arts at the high school. Judging will be provided by individuals selected from outside the BRHS community in order to insure fair and impartial results.
The date and time of the show is: Friday, June 1st, 2018; 7:30PM at the BRHS auditorium.
Participation is limited to the following categories: Vocal
All performers (including individuals and groups) must submit a registration form online at www.kimsway.org. Registration will close on April 30th, 2018.
All participants must audition and be approved by the Auditions Committee in order to compete. Auditions will be held on May 6th, 2018 in the BRHS Auditorium. Each registrant will be contacted by e-mail as to their audition time.
We have an exciting addition to the event that involves ALL performers who audition. All auditioners, regardless of whether or not they are accepted to compete, are invited to participate in a special Group Sing Exhibition Performance. This will take place between the end of the competition and the announcement of the results. All competing performers are expected to participate to help make this a truly memorable and epic event.
We are again offering students the opportunity to compete in two Sing-Off categories. However, there is a small change in the categories. you can now compete (a) as a soloist, and/or (b) as part of a group of two or more performers (including any non-professional accompanist). The purpose of this change is to encourage more performers to participate. A performer is allowed to compete in one act in each category--in at most two total judged acts.
A total of $1,000 in cash prizes will be awarded.
Eligibility is limited to current students of BRHS or Bridgewater students attending Somerset County Vo-Tech. Participants will be selected on a first come, first serve basis pending suitability of content for public performance, space/equipment constraints, and the desired show length. Organizers reserve the right to close registration at any time. All acts must perform the same musical selection in the competition as used for their audition. This includes the number of people in the act, as well as the musical choice.
Individual students or groups of students can register. The number of acts will be limited to fit a 2-hour time slot so sign up early!
CATEGORIES: Competition may include the following types of performances: vocal soloist or vocal groups accompanied by one instrument. Soloists or vocal groups may also perform unaccompanied or with prerecorded music.
Absolutely no vocal basckups are allowed on pre-recorded music. Any and all pre-recorded music must be provided to competition coordinators on CD ONLY! No cassettes or other media will be accepted. It is preferred that the CD contains ONLY the selected piece of music, to avoid any problems onstage. Each CD disc (NOT case) must be clearly labeled with the performer's name and cut number (if any). A piano will be made available on stage. There will be a time limit for each performer of four minutes. This will be timed by the judges. Performers who exceed the time limit will be penalized. No special effects are allowed.
Judges will assess talent, stage presence, quality of performance, audience appeal, entertainment value and time limit. Content may not contain explicit lyrics or derogatory statements toward any individual on the basis of race, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, or ability. All decisions of the judges are final. No Judge's Score Sheet will be available to any performers following the contest.
The event organizers and the Kimberly A. Nelson Foundation, Inc., are not responsible for any lost, damaged, or stolen property. All performers understand and agree that photographs and/or video may be taken during the performances. The photos and/or video may be used for future talent committees to review for show improvements or for advertising purposes.
