Daniel Amorim is very honored to be a recipient of the 2020 Scholarship. He is a dedicated student of the arts and is determined to stay with the arts throughout his college career at Montclair State
...University and onward. He sees the BRHS Arts Departments, mainly the Theater Department and Choir Department, as his home away from home. He would like to thank the Kimberly Nelson Foundation for everything they have done for these departments.
Dan has been part of the BRHS Choir Department since his freshman year. He was a member of the Mixed Choir his freshman and sophomore year and then joined the Honors Symphonic Choir for his junior and senior year. He was also part of the choir council in junior year as the Publicist and senior year as the Videographer.
Dan spent most of his time after school in the auditorium in rehearsal for whatever show was happening at the time. He has been part of each show the BRHS Theater Arts Department has put on since his freshman year both onstage and backstage. Some of his credits include Jan Dussel in The Diary of Anne Frank, Harold Gorringe in Black Comedy, and William Barfee in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. He was set to play Amos Hart in the 2020 Spring Production of Chicago and is still hoping to step on the BRHS stage one more time whenever he can. He has also been a member of the Thespian Honors Society since his sophomore year.
Dan was also a member of the Media Department at BRHS since his sophomore year, having completed all of the Media Classes available at BRHS and being a talent on the BRTV show What’s Up Wednesday for his junior and senior year. While he will be studying Communications and Media Arts at Montclair State University, he fully intends to be involved in the arts community at Montclair.
Lastly, Dan would like to thank all of his teachers and directors for guiding him through his four amazing years at BRHS, his parents for supporting him in every endeavor that they would have to drive him to, and Kimberly A. Nelson Foundation for giving him this honor.
Diana Scafuto has been an active member of the BRHS Choir Program for all four years of high school. She was a member of the Mixed Choir her freshman year and Symphonic Choir her sophomore, junior,
...and senior years. In addition, she was a member of the Accapella Alliance for one year, Glee ensemble for three years, and Lorelei Women’s Ensemble for all four years. She also had the pleasure of serving as Soprano Section Leader for two years and the Co-Leader of Glee for one year. Diana is so grateful for the experiences she has had in the BRHS Choir Program and for everything Mr. Wilson has done for her and the program. Mr. Wilson has been an inspiration and an incredible motivator. She will continue to participate in choir throughout college and, at the request of Mr. Wilson, will never stop singing.
Diana has also been an active member of the BRHS Theatre Arts Department for all four years of high school and a member and officer of the BRHS Thespian Honor Society for three years. Throughout high school, she has been in all four musicals and two of the plays, her favorite role being Anne Frank in the Diary of Anne Frank. She has also contributed to several Thespian Honor Society shows as a crew member and light operator and as a performer in many smaller productions throughout the years. She has had the honor of serving as Vice President of the Thespian Honor Society for two years and President for one year. Diana is incredibly appreciative of everything Mr. and Mrs. Gunning have done for the Theatre Arts Department and the Thespian Honor Society and looks to them as examples of true passion and humility.
Diana is incredibly thankful and honored to be a 2020 recipient of the Kimberly A. Nelson Foundation Scholarship and to become a part of the legacy that Kim has inspired.
Chris Tomo is incredibly grateful for all of the work the Kimberly A. Nelson Foundation has done to support the BRHS Choir Program and the broader community of musicians and performers at
...Bridgewater-Raritan High School. He feels honored to be a part of Kim's legacy by receiving a scholarship.
Theater has been a constant influence on Chris throughout high school, as he was involved in the department for all four years and was a member of the Thespian Honor Society for the last three years. His contributions to the department were through a variety of roles, including cast, crew, and production staff, as well as being Assistant Director of the Holiday Special for two years. Some of his favorite productions include Black Comedy, Museum, and Anyone Can Whistle.
Chris joined choir his sophomore year after a little motivation from the cast of the prior year's spring musical, The Will Rogers Follies, and it was probably the best decision he ever made. He sang in Mixed Choir for a year before joining Symphonic Choir, where he was able to push himself as a musician. In addition to curricular choirs, Chris has also been in Glee and Ensembros for two years, directing Ensembros and co-directing Glee in his senior year. He also served as the choir program's Logistics Officer for the 2019-2020 school year.
Chris has cherished his time in the choir and theater programs at BRHS and is so grateful for everything he has learned from Mr. Wilson, Mr. Gunning, and Mrs. Gunning over the last few years. This fall, Chris will be attending Tufts University, where he plans to declare a major in Biology.
